Mimecast strives to continually innovate and evolve our solutions in order to provide customers with richer functionality and more robust products. Android OS 2 & 3 is being retired as a supported operating system for Mimecast products. This article explains what Android OS 2 & 3 retirement means to current customers who have Mimecast products installed on this operating system.

What is the impact?

Version 2.3 of the Mimecast Mobile app, released in October 2014, is the last supported version for Android devices running Android OS 2 & 3 (Gingerbread & Honeycomb). Additionally, the end-of-support date for Android OS 2 & 3 is 14th October, 2015.

This means that on that date, Mimecast will stop providing support for our software on Android mobile devices running Android OS 2 & 3. The earliest supported OS will be Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

This means that:

  • Mobile devices running Android OS 2 & 3 will no longer receive automatic upgrades to the Mimecast Mobile app.
  • There will be no supported path to upgrade existing installations of the Mimecast Mobile app on Android OS 2 & 3 after version 2.3 of Mimecast Mobile.
  • After the end of support date, our Mimecast Support team can no longer guarantee assistance with issues arising from your use of the Mimecast Mobile app on Android OS 2 & 3.
  • After the end of support date, Mimecast cannot guarantee that our products will operate without issues on Android OS 2 & 3.

When will this happen?

This will take affect on 14th October 2014.
