In order to assist with support issues, each BlackBerry device with the BlackBerry client application installed can be configured to generate log files.  These logs contain information about the Mimecast Mobile for BlackBerry, such as connectivity to your BES server and connectivity to Mimecast amongst others.

Walkthrough

Logging is disabled by default.  Always ensure that logging has been disabled, unless these logs are actively being used to troubleshoot a support case.  If not disabled, log generation will continue, and will consume large amounts of space on the device.

  1. Use the BlackBerry button to open the Options menu.  For OS 6.0 devices and later, go to Options | Third Party Applications.
  2. Select Archive and Continuity to display the options available.
  3. Click the BlackBerry button.
  4. Select Advanced Options.
  5. Select Enable Logging.
  6. Save the changes.

The BlackBerry device is now generating logs.  If there is a specific issue you are reporting, try to recreate the issue, or ensure the issue is still occurring with the logging enabled.  These log files should now contain the relevant information for troubleshooting, and can be sent to Mimecast Support.

Once the issue has been reproduced ensure that you turn off logging on the device.

To send the log file to Mimecast

  1. Use the BlackBerry button to open the Options menu.  For OS 6.0 devices, go to Options | Third Party Applications.
  2. Select Archive and Continuity to display the options available.
  3. Click the BlackBerry button.
  4. Select Advanced Options.
  5. Select Disable Logging.
  6. Click Submit Logs.
  7. If log submission is successful, you will receive a success notification in your BlackBerry Inbox.  It may take some time before you receive the notification, as the logs could be fairly large.
