Discovery Cases: Accessing a Review Stream's Smart Tags

This guide covers how to access the smart tags created by the export of a review stream in a Discovery case. In addition, it also covers how to export messages marked as Relevant by smart tags. 


Applies To...


  • Administrators wanting to access smart tags after a review stream has been exported.
  • Administrators wanting to export messages marked as Relevant by smart tags.




When a review has been completed, the reviewer can choose to export the results. The results are exported to smart tags, from where you can use the data to include in:

  • Other Discovery cases
  • Archive searches
  • Export or litigation holds


When messages are exported, they are tagged with the following message statuses at the time of export:

  • Relevant
  • Not Relevant
  • Privileged


Accessing a Review Stream's Smart Tags


To access a review stream's smart tags:

  1. Log on to the Administration Console.
  2. Click on the Administration toolbar button. A menu drop down is displayed.
  3. Click on the Archive | Discovery Cases menu item.
  4. Select the Folder in the hierarchy containing the discovery case. A list of Discovery cases is displayed.

  5. Select the required Discovery Case. The case's properties are displayed.
  6. Click on the Review Stream Smart Tags toolbar button. The smart tags are displayed.


The smart tags are arranged in a hierarchy by Discovery case and then review stream. Under each review is a date and time stamped export folder. These smart tags are only available from the Discovery case list.


Exporting Messages Marked as Relevant

Relevant MessagesTo export messages marked as Relevant, you'll first need to verify that all of the messages have been exported to the smart tag:

  1. Click on the Administration | Archive | Discovery Cases menu item. All Discovery cases are listed in the left folder menu.
  2. Click on the Review Stream Smart Tags button at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on the relevant case name from the left menu to expand the folder.
  4. Click on Message Review | ExportXXXX... | Relevant (Where "XXXX..." is the date and time that the export function was used in the Reviewer App).
  5. Ensure that all messages have been added to the smart tag, expanding the date range if necessary.


The next step is to save the archive search for the Relevant messages:

  1. Click on the Administration | Archive | Saved Searches menu item.
  2. Click on the New Search button.
  3. Scroll down to the Search within Smart Tag field and click on Lookup. Do not enter any criteria in the other settings.
  4. Locate the smart tag from the Lookup menu that displays (Case Name | Message Review | ExportXXX... | Relevant).
  5. Set the Date Range to All Time.
  6. Click on the Save & Exit button.


Export SearchThe final step is to export the Relevant messages:

  1. Click on the Administration | Archive | Saved Searches menu item.
  2. Locate the saved search from the left hand menu.
  3. Right click on the search and click Export Search from the pop up menu.
