Is there any way to find the exact position in the email body or attachment where a message has been held due to a particular regular expression being located (e.g. credit card number)
There seems to be only a general location subject, body or attachment.
No, you cannot determine the position within each area. Could you provide an example of where this could be used? From our perspective, we will scan entire contents of emails to determine a content match.
So if an email is held because the credit card number was located, we can let you know in which area it was located in. But I am not sure how we would show the position... Perhaps the number of characters in, or the line in the body maybe?
We would like this information so we can determine whether a data leakage match is a genuine. E.g. as a financial institute we attempt to block patterns of 8 numbers (our account numbers). Occasionally an email will get blocked that matches the Regex pattern but it is actually a company registration number.
The position of the Regex match would be advantageous for us to determine whether the information matched is a genuine data leakage issue. It would be useful to display the piece of data that had been matched, combined with the character and line number with in the subject, body or attachment.
