Mimecast Email Security now supports a new deployment option: API-Based Protection.
What has been released?
API-Based Protection is a gatewayless deployment that connects directly to Microsoft 365 via API - no MX record changes, no mail flow impact. It scans messages within seconds after delivery and automatically remediates threats.
What hasn't changed?
The protection. API-Based Protection runs on the exact same detection engines, threat intelligence, and AI platform that power our MX-based gateway deployment. Same multi-layered scanning. Same sandboxing, URL analysis, CyberGraph social graphing, advanced BEC and impersonation detection. Same SKU, same pricing. You're not choosing between protection — you're choosing how it deploys.
What this means for you?
If you're evaluating email security options or already running standalone products like DMARC Analyzer, Archiving, or Awareness Training — API-Based Protection is now available as a path to full Mimecast email security, without any email infrastructure changes, all from the same user interface.
Already an existing Mimecast Email Security customer? API-Based Protection isn't available as a deployment switch just yet — if you're on MX-based or Cloud Integrated deployment, your protection remains fully in place and unchanged. We'll share updates when switching options become available.
Why this matters?
Email remains the #1 attack vector. Many organizations have hesitated to deploy a full Secure Email Gateway because of the change management that comes with MX record updates. API-Based Protection removes that barrier, allowing more organizations to benefit from Mimecast's multi-engine protection — the same protection our existing customers already rely on.
It also makes it easier than ever to prove value. Through our POV motion, which is free of charge, you can run Mimecast alongside your existing defenses and see exactly what threats are being missed - using your own environment as evidence, before taking any action on email.
