We're excited to announce the launch of the Mimecast End User Portal - a modern, browser-based application that marks the beginning of a new chapter for how end users access Mimecast services.
This release follows previous communications around this ongoing project, last one dating back to December 5, 2025. We have now completed what was referred to as “Phase 1”.
What Is the End User Portal?
The End User Portal is a Progressive Web Application (PWA) eventually designed to replace Mimecast for Outlook, Personal Portal, Mobile, and Mac. Rather than maintaining separate native apps for every platform, it delivers a single, unified experience across any device or browser - with existing applications supported until full feature parity is reached.
This first release focuses on Email Archive Search functionality, giving users the ability to search, view, and retrieve messages from their email archive from any device.
Why We Built It
Our current end-user applications have served customers well, but the landscape is changing. The new Microsoft Outlook no longer supports COM add-ins - the underlying framework for Mimecast for Outlook. While alternatives like Office Add-ins exist, they come with significantly reduced functionality and introduce a dependency on Microsoft service availability.
The End User Portal removes that dependency entirely. It's an independent platform built on stable, industry-standard web technology backed by Google, Microsoft, Firefox, and Safari - giving us a foundation that isn't subject to the limitations of any single vendor's decisions.
What's Available Today
The Open Beta delivers archive search for end users - equivalent to what's available in Mimecast Personal Portal today - across the following platforms:
- Devices: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS
- Browsers: Latest stable versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari
- Access: Explained through our Knowledge Base
Admins can enable access through Application Settings in the Mimecast Administration Console using the same settings that manage Mimecast Personal Portal. The portal can also be deployed organization-wide via MDM/EMM solutions.
Importantly, all existing end-user applications continue to work as normal alongside the new portal. There is no disruption to existing workflows during the Open Beta.
What's Coming Next
Following this release, we'll be adding functionality in iterative phases. The immediate next phase includes:
- Email Continuity: Online Inbox and Sent Items, so users can send and receive email directly through the portal during a continuity event
- Calendar Access: The same calendar functionality currently available in Mimecast Personal Portal
Further down the roadmap, the portal will expand to include:
- Secure Messaging
- Large File Send
- Gateway features: Held Message Queue, Block Lists, and Allow Lists
- Branding support via the Mimecast Branding service
- Access via MyApps and an Outlook add-in
- Net-new functionality as the platform matures
What This Means for Existing Applications
The End User Portal is designed to be the long-term replacement for all current end-user applications. Once feature parity has been achieved, Mimecast will begin end-of-life processes for “legacy” apps - and as always, customers will receive a minimum of 12 months' notice before any application is retired. We're still early in that journey, and nothing changes today.
No Additional Cost
The End User Portal is included as part of existing service packages that currently include end-user applications. No additional licensing is required. Feature access is controlled using the same Application Settings as Mimecast Personal Portal, so existing entitlements remain unchanged.
How to Get Involved
The Open Beta is open to all customers with access to Mimecast end-user applications. This is your opportunity to evaluate the portal in your own environment and help shape where it goes next. Feedback submitted during the Open Beta will directly influence feature prioritization and future releases, and Mimecast actively welcomes input from both admins and end users.
